You Know CBD. Now, Meet CBG.

It all started with 24 seeds.  Blühen Botanicals’ Co-Founder and Director of Cultivation, Erich Maelzer, had sourced the rare genetics from a South Carolina grower and was able to get 22 of the seeds to sprout.  After growing and testing them, two of them came back with high CBG.  It was like finding the golden egg - and it was highly surprising.  CBG was not what we were looking for.  But, it is now.

Cannabis contains 100+ cannabinoids.  CBD and THC are, by far, the best known, but Blühen Botanicals' aim has always been to explore the others.  Cannabigerol, or CBG, represents our first major move in that direction.  To understand why we are so excited about that, it helps to understand a little more about CBG.

One thing that is so special about CBG is its origins.  The cannabis plant produces cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) which gets broken down and spun off as tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA); they become THC and CBD when exposed to heat or UV light.  That breaking-down process generally happens very quickly meaning most strains of CBD and THC end up having very little CBG in them.  One way to try to achieve more is to cross-breed plants; Blühen’s are a triple cross, the result of crossing three different varieties.

Our original two high-CBG plants were turned into mother plants which created clones.  Hundreds of them are now growing on Blühen’s partner farms.  We will grow enough CBG outdoor to process into oils with the vision being products containing a 1:1 ratio of CBD and CBG!

It is new territory, but Maelzer finds that it provides him with more of an energizing feeling, as opposed to what he describes as CBD’s relaxing feeling.  Maelzer uses CBG as a daily daytime application.

Like CBD, CBG is non-intoxicating, meaning it will not get you high.  What it can do at this point has not been extensively researched, but the early research has been fascinating, suggesting huge potential across a variety of applications.

Blühen sells CBG flower in our flagship location Knoxville.  We offer two varieties, one testing around 6.5% CBG and the other at 10% CBG.  Give it a try - and let us know what you think!
